Creative Learning Art and STEM Program, or CLASP, has finalized its plan for the 4th quarter of the 2024 - 2025 School Year! As spring rolls around, we feel it is a perfect opportunity to focus on Earth Science, ecology, and sustainability.
LAB 1 - In "Futuristic Fibers and Fluids," participants will investigate various materials that exhibit unexpected behaviors. Is it possible for a fluid to function as both a solid and a liquid? How can a metal "remember" its shape? How did scientists resolve the challenge of fuel transportation in zero gravity for spacecraft? Get the answers to these questions and more through interactive experiments and demonstrations in this lab!
LAB 2 - In "Science in a Bottle," participants have the option to bring their own single-use bottle from home (or choose from the many bottles that Mr. Camden has been collecting since April 2024) to engage in practicing the other 3 R's: Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. Among the numerous Earth Science examples to be explored in this lab, the concepts of reducing and reusing waste are invaluable, frequently overlooked, and a central focus of this lab. Remember - there are 2 "R's" before "Recycle".
Lab 3 - EARTH DAY! Join a STEM-themed lab to celebrate Earth Day - can your team come up with the most effective method to contain and clean up an Oil Spill?
Lab 4 - Did you know blackberries can be used in the creation of solar panels? In "Solar Science," participants will have the opportunity to create their own blackberry solar cell! This unique lab introduces concepts of sustainability, chemistry, energy transfer, technology, and more!
Lab 5 - Countless interactions between living organisms and chemicals occur beneath us; their uninterrupted success is vital for the stability of our ecosystem and planet. Scientists are constantly uncovering new microbes, important species interactions, and more, all taking place in the ground on which we walk. "Soil and Spring Biology" highlights the importance of maintaining our soil "unsoiled."
Lab 6 - Students will get to choose their favorite lab activities from the year to end the program in the best way possible! :)
***PLEASE NOTE - THERE WILL NOT BE CLASP LABS ON MAY 6 & 8!!!***
I am constantly thinking of how to make CLASP the best it can be! If you have any comments, suggestions, inquiries, or just plainly want to talk about the program, please contact me!
